Something smells bad..
« on: March 23, 2012, 05:49:19 PM »
Has anyone's car ever smelled like raw sewage..I know what you are thinking..no I didn't run it into a ditch..
For the first time in like 8 months at least I did a small break boost because of traffic (maybe 3.5K-4K RPMs)
Afterwards my car was putting off a strong sulfur/methane type odor.
Any thoughts besides take it to the dealer??

does it smell when the A/C is on? if so, then its the a/c system moisture.

sounds like your battery is leaking ? maybe your alternator is over charging it...causing it to boil and make sulfuric gas or the rotten egg smell.  Put a volt meter to it while it is running, normal is apx 14 volts anything beyond 15 volts I would look at getting that alternator tested. asap

that would be your cat going bad most likely. the cat can make a rotten egg smell when the honeycomb on the inside goes bad. if you don't have a cat then i don't know.

What did you eat that day? ;)

How many miles are in your car? Any modifications?  Is the smell distinct to an electrical circuit?

Sulfur could also be clutch or cats.

most likely since you got on the throttle hard that you ran a little rich and the unburnt fuel is reacting with the honeycomb material in the catalytic converter. once the extra fuel in the exhaust evaporated it stopped creating the smell.
