2016 Rally in the 100 Acre Wood
« on: December 07, 2015, 12:15:04 PM »

March 18th - 19th

The Rally in the 100 Acre Wood serves as the 2nd round of the Rally America National Championship and is set to be held March 18th - March 19th.  Because this is the closest Rally America event to Nebraska, there's typically a handful of enthusiasts who attend each year.

This year I'm planning on going.  This will be my first Rally America event ever attended and, since there are those who have experience not just with attending events like this, but this location specifically... that we could round up some folks and do this rally right!

Newbies and Veterans, post up if you're going!  Maybe we can even travel to the event together!

I want to try and make it this year too.  I am going to try and ask off work soon.  Are both of you planning on volunteering or just watching from the spectator spots?

I was talking with El Presidente about this yesterday.  Volunteering is fun but if we all go as a group and all volunteer, we'd probably be split up.  It might be wise to have some of us Volunteer and have the rest spectate and follow 'em around.  Either way, it'll be a good time.  I'm starting to plan things out on my end, but it's certainly good to get interest and round up folks now.

Yeah, that's a fair point.  I'd also be interested in carpooling with someone if my own build isn't done in time to caravan...

Jon was talking about bringing the Tribeca down to caravan additional peoples.  I'm hoping to bring one of my Subarus as well.  I don't think either of us would mind some company.

If you're driving down, you could meet our Caravan here in Omaha and tag along with someone.  I'd be more than happy to give ya a lift.  You could leave your car in the spare spot at my house.

I've talked with Mr "GotCone" about it.  He's leaving Thursday morning to head down.  Media checks in that afternoon, so that's why he leaves then.  That would make for an extra early morning for Mr RallyFan to meet up with us in Omaha, though.

We also need to figure out lodging stuff soon.  I know there's not much in the way of "hotels" in Salem, MO.  There's better accommodations in Rolla but honestly I don't plan on spending a lot of time at the lodging outside of sleeping.

I would like to go but I need to talk with steph about it first. I did some reading on the volunteering and it sounds like i want to be more of a spectator. That being said, i already checked out all of the lodging in Salem and everything is already full for that weekend. Do you guys have a city in mind that you want to get lodging in? I would like to book that sooner rather than later. I am open for folks riding with us if you want to car pool but I will be driving down myself.

That Drury hotel looks pretty nice and for a good price ($85).  If Rolla is going to work for others (namely those who would be kind enough to give me a ride!) then I'll go ahead and book it for Friday night as well.

Were people who are heading down on Friday planning to head back up Saturday after things have concluded for the day?

I plan on coming back Sunday, too.  Debating what day to leave.  Either way, I think we'll ALL meet up together down there, but it's still fun getting some radios and playing "Trucker Radio" with 'em.

I got a room booked at the Drury as well for both Friday and Saturday nights, it's a double so if anyone wants in on that we can split the costs!

So there's been some discussion on Facebook.  I had planned originally to leave Thursday so I don't miss anything on Friday, but many have been talking about going there Friday.  If the schedule is like last years, the Parc Expose starts around lunchtime with the spectator stages starting around 1:30.  I wouldn't want to miss the start of the event, so I'd want to leave in time to get there.  Google Maps says about 7 hours to get to Salem from here, so that'd mean a departure time of 6am out of Omaha.  Would you guys want to do that?

I would be up for leaving that at 6am on Friday as I would probably come down on Thursday night to Omaha and stay at my brothers dorm or something.  I am looking at booking a room at the Drury.  If the fiance comes along with I will probably drive my car down too just so its not too cramped.  We could always carpool once down in Missouri for the event.

On a side note:   THIS IS MY 555TH post on the forum.   :subaru:

This sounds like a blast! Interesting that it's near Rolla, MO. My brother goes to school there, so I could probably cheap out and just stay at his dorm or something for free :p

Have you booked a room yet in Rolla?  I will most likely be going by myself so I would accept the offer to carpool.  :)

Haven't booked anything yet and I'm down for a carpool.  You've already been my co-driver for Rallycross, so I don't see an issue sharing the wheel to head down to the rally!

Been on the fence about signing up to volunteer or not.  I'm just worried that being a total greenhorn to Stage Rally wouldn't be of much help at the event.  Or is there a good amount of training for whathever role I would play in volunteering?

Higgins and Pastrana have been confirmed for the Rally in the 100 Acre Wood next week!

Getting REALLY stoked to go to this event!  I feel like I should repurpose one of those "Count the days until Christmas" childrens calendars to "Count the days until 100AW"

Speaking of that, we're about a week out from heading down.  Does everyone have their travel plans nailed down?
