What class am I in? (Solo/AutoX edition)
« on: March 23, 2009, 12:57:50 PM »
If you want help classing your car, this is the place.

Option 1. Download the SCCA rule book from the link below and find out what class your car falls under.

SOLO Cars and Rules

Option 2. List out your entire list of mods that you have done to your car and have one of the more experienced members reply back in this thread and help you correctly classify your car. Remeber ANYTHING that didn't come in your car from the factory is considered a mod. Eg: Clutches, SS brakelines, intake, tranny swap, head porting, engine internals, batteries, short shifter, bodykits, non factory LSDs, springs, shocks, ECU reflash, engine management, even tire width and aftermarket antennas will put you in a different class.

NOTE: Details on the Nebraska region only classes  (taken from here)

Street Tire PAX and Ladies PAX

If you have street tires (treadwear rating 140 or higher) you have the option of running in the Street Tire PAX class instead of the Open class. Mark the "Street Tire" box if you desire to enter that class. (You cannot enter the Street Tire PAX class if you are in ST, STS, STX, STU, or STR since those classes are already on street tires.)

If you are female and want to only run against the other ladies in the Ladies PAX class, mark the "Ladies" box.

Now that you know what classes Nebraska Region uses ... which class are you in?

Start with what modifications you have done. This will determine which category you fall into. Then go to that section of the rule book and find your car. That is the class you enter on your tech card. Timing needs to know the class even if you are running in the Street Tire PAX class or the Ladies PAX class.

"PAX is the term that's been around since the inception of the Index. It stands for Professional Autocross (AutoX). The term came into play in the 1970's in order to determine a Grand Champion for the Portage (Indiana) Grand Prix. It was a Street Autocross down the main street and into a parking lot in Portage, Indiana." -- Rick Ruth (creator of the PAX index)

I doubt I'd even pass inspection. No muffler and my tires are just about bald.

neither of those are an issue as long as you aren't running at a site w/ noise restriction. Which none of the NR sites are that I'm aware. There will be cars there louder than you are now.  And many will be on near bald tires. ;)

What's your wheel/tire setup Eric?

Regardless you're looking at BSP, if on street tires you can run the indexed class so BSP-ST.

yeah. I'd do BSP-ST if you don't mind running the index class.

I was wondering what class I was in too.. I've read the rules and think my car would fall in SM because of the cams.

-Header
-Catback (stock cats)
-LW Flywheel
-Stage II Full disc clutch
-Mild Street Regrind Cams
-Cold Air Intake
-Front strut brace
-16x6.5 wrx rims, 205/50r16 98w street tires
-Full interior.
-2 inch I think Tanabe drop springs

I thought that entering and being SM I would get completely stomped (probably will) but when I was out there I definetly saw it was the driver 90% and the car 10%. So I'm pretty set on entering next time for fun.

I was running STS with the car when I had it. If the car still has the high flow cat you are fine for STS. If you did in fact change it to a test pipe (which doesn't have a cat) then you would prob be DSP.

even w/ a legal high flow cat, the clutch keeps it from being legal for any ST class.

those mods on a wrx = ESP or ESP-ST.

what keeps you out of ST* is being catless, and the different intercooler and BOV.

So I think I wanna get more into autox...
anyway my mod list thus far.

turbo xs catless up pipe,
HKS downpipe,
tanabe catback exhaust,
turboxs UTEC,
Agency Power BOV,
Competition Clutch stage 2 clutch
18in RSL rims with continental contiextremecontact, tires.
only other thing is currently the car has a carbon hood which I believe puts me in a different class. this isnt a big deal because i can put the stock hood back on, but im just wondering both ways.

those mods w/ stock hood - ESP / ESP-ST
those mods w/ CF hood - SM / SM-ST

Just keep the car as is and bring it out and have fun.
