.

My car was tuned by Calvin Dotson on a Mustang Dyno at Cobb Tuning in Plano TX

Car: 2005 Outback XT
Tuner: Calvin Dotson Cobb Tuning Plano TX
Dyno Info: Mustang
Peak HP at RPM: 349
Peak Torque at RPM: 373
Baseline hp/tq for a stock on same dyno: N/A
Target Boost: 21 PSI
Target AFR: ????
Fuel: E85 105 octane

When I arrived into Plano the day before the tune I needed to add some fuel to my car so I put 2-3 gallons of 93 Octane Shell gas in the car.

When I went to the tune we just decided to tune it with the fuel in the car since the light wasnt even on yet. I didnt drive that much on friday so the 2-3 was still in the car.

The bad news was the 93 Shell Texas gas was CRAP!
Calvin even asked where did you get this gas.

So the first disappointment was I somehow got some crappy gas and he could not get it to not knock without pulling the timing.

Needless to say the car put down a respectable 304whp 317wtq at 20.5psi.
I was shooting for the Rallitek stage 3 goal of 326whp 334wtq and wasnt able to make it seemingly do to the fuel.

We then pumped the rest of the 93 (91) shell out and went on to the E85 tune.

The car pulled hard on the E85 and put down 349whp 373wtq at 21psi
My rallitek goal was 332whp 367wtq which I EASILY surpassed.

Now the next small issue I had on the E85 was the fact that at peak power output the DW 850 injectors were hitting 100% duty cycle.

2 STI's after me on VF39's were only hitting 80% with the same injectors. By the way the STI's put down 334whp and 400wtq.

Calvin felt I might be able to push it a bit more but after telling him I had an AVO pump in the car, we both thought it was either not holding enough fuel pressure due to the regulator or the seal at the pump in the tank.

I will be looking into this and then evaluate the tune again via the internet with Calvin.

This was tuned with an AVO TMIC. NOT A FMIC.

This was also tuned on a MUSTANG DYNO not a Dynojet

With no fuel pressure problems and a FMIC it would have put down numbers more like the rallitek stage 3 ultimate kit....at least
370-380whp and 430wtq I believe.

The temperature in Plano at the time of the tune was 52 degrees.

Here is the graph:

Greg is a great guy too.  He road shotgun in my WRX last year at 100 AW and I drive like a crazy man.  he was over there like "wo ho, and faster faster"  Great "co-driver" and good dude.

Sorry to out your real name man..

BTW I am staying in KC that Friday night, maybe we could caravan to Omaha Sat?  I mean we could car pool, but what's the fun in that?   B)

The wife drives my old OBS that I was planning a STI swap before I got my WRX, that ride is so hard!  Probably a nice pleasant surprise for the local civic speedsters.  Cant wait to see it.

Jeff thanks for the kudos. Jeffs a great driver, and a great guy as well.....very fun to drive shotgun, although I havent been shotgunner in the STI yet. I wish I would have been on the country ride

Saturday sounds like a plan, Ill follow you up if we can work out a time. Plan on driving up as a few want to see the oldtimer outbacker.

If you or Mark (qikslvr) could give me a place to crash Saturday night that would be cool....

What an awesome sleeper!  I would love to be in that, just to see the confused look on peoples faces as they get worked by an Outback.

Yep its alot of fun, toy'd a bit with a 2008-2009 STI the other night with a Temp Tag that said NOV 26th expiration date. With the tag I knew it probably wasnt modded yet   and I new I had 350/373 under the hood.
I like having the STI badge on the back with the AVO and Cobb stickers so they realize in the end ITS NOT STOCK  <_<

The weight on it is not bad either, it was originally listed at 3415 on cars101.com but with the brakes, sways coilovers and so on it probably is around 3300-3350

2005 Outback XT manual Non limited 3,415lbs

2005 is listed at: manual: 3,263lbs
2006 STi is listed at: manual: 3,351lbs
2007manual:3,351lbs
2008 STI: 3,395
BBS models: 3,373

You ever make it up to Omaha, Greg? I really want a ride in this thing.
the bottom line is this, people just need to realize that when they buy cheap CO's [KW on down], they are buying cheap, poorly engineered shocks for the sake of having height adjust-ability. - whitetiger on legacygt.com
