SSR Comp-x refinish
2010-08-21 11:34:13

So I picked up a set of used SSR COMP-X wheels from a guy on Dirty Impreza. They were used, and had been poorly repainted.

The SSR COMP-X is no longer available new and have become nearly impossible to find used. They are probably the best recipe of lightweight and strength for rallycross use. After all, we're not jumping or dodging tree stumps and bolders at rallycross events.

I was going to clean them up and refinish them myself with some GrimmSpeed Gold. However I came to the conclusion that I'd really like their finish to look good without the need to touch it up often. So I elected to powder coat them. For that I turned to the guys at Trail Performance Coatings in Omaha, NE. I have been using them for years for ceramic coating and they've never missed the mark. Their reputation is so good, they are always busy. If anyone asks me where to get some work done, I always send them to trail.

Here is an example of a 'prepped wheel' (not mine)

And the finished product.. Sunrise Gold powdercoat.

Thanks to the guys at Trail Performance Coatings for the superb job.

larger pics for you to enjoy.  Wheels must be seen to be believed.

*The metallic looks so crazy awesome in this pic.
